Cool Beans

By Erynn Mangum

067112: Cool BeansCool Beans
By Erynn Mangum / NAV Press

Everything is going perfectly for Maya Davis. She's got a great job at a coffee shop, loving parents, and is happily single---until her best friend unknowingly starts dating Maya's high school sweetheart! Who knew she was still interested in him? A delightful faith-based retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion. 336 pages, softcover from NavPress.

CRM RATING:T
Explain:Coffee, chocolate, relationships, and a parrot named Polly and it’s all connected.

SPIRITUAL RATING: 3-4
Explain:Are you struggling to find a time to do devotions? Maya is too.

CRM REVIEW:

Maya Davis might be having the worst month of her life because (a.) her best friend/roommate, Jen, is dating her ex-boyfriend, (b.) her ex-boyfriend doesn’t recognize her –really? They dated for like four years-, (c.) her prefect brother just moved back to town with his perfect wife, and (d.) she might be losing her best-friend, Jack.

Yep, now if she could just write that all down on one of her sticky notes maybe she could remember to keep her mouth shut or open in this case because she hasn’t told Jen that she’s dating her old boyfriend.

And what’s with Jack? Sure he’s crazy and is going to get a zoology major, but that’s just normal – and weird.

Whoa! Reasons I liked Cool Beans:

  1. It made me laugh.
  2. I love Maya and Jack.
  3. I could not put it down.
  4. The girl-talk, the honesty, and the so down to earth story.
  5. The spiritual content made me think.
