When Lady Constance Morrow finds herself kidnapped and bound for the American colonies, she's sure she'll find a reasonable man who'll believe her story and send her back to England. Instead, she's "bought" by farmer Drew O'Connor. How long will it take before this marriage of convenience becomes very inconvenient for both of them? 320 pages, softcover from Bethany.

By Deeanne Gist / Bethany

Rachel van Buren arrives in Gold Rush San Francisco with two wishes: to protect her younger siblings and to return east as soon as possible. Both goals prove more difficult than she could imagine as her brother and sister are lured by the city's dangerous freedom and a missionary-turned-gambler stakes a claim on her heart. Rachel won't give up without a fight though, and soon all will learn an eloquent but humorous lesson about what truly makes a lady.

By Deeanne Gist / Bethany

Essie Spreckelmeyer has a bit more spunk than the normal woman in her 1894 town of Corsicana, Texas. While Essie revels in her unusual and spontaneous lifestyle, the eligible men of the town seem to disagree, which Essie's spinsterhood reveals. At thirty years old, Essie decides that it's time to stop waiting on the men to take the initiative, and makes her own list of men to court. However, the man she is most interested in is nowhere near the top of her list. Deeanne Gist, hardcover, 330 pages.

BRIDE was an enjoyable read being well written by the author. I had some pause at the handling of the sexual tension in many of the beginning scenes....
