English teacher's advice
by: Susan

My first English professor was determined to teach one thing, to write tight. If one carefully chosen, descriptive word could effectively replace five words in a sentence, that's what he expected to see and he handed back every paper that fell short. Students could take that grade or take the challenge to try again. I turned one paper in five times before I understood!
