Information Scenes

The only thing we need to say about Information scenes is...keep them short and to the point.

Do not drag them out to fill pages or to inflate your word count.

If when you are writing these scenes, you are using them to fulfill your word count quota, your reader will end up simply skimming the book or worse yet, shutting it...permanently!

If you splash information into other scenes such as the action scene you will keep the pace of your story and the reader!

Of course there are pieces of information that your reader needs to know. Try placing it into dialogue either external or internal. For example:

You are using a foreign word.

"Spasiba," said Nicoli. Thank you.

"Spasiba." Nicoli said, smiling."You're welcome, Nick." I had to smile too.

Nicoli thanked me once again in his native Russian. "You're welcome, Nick." I had to smile.

"Spasiba, thank you," said Nicoli.

All are legitimate and maybe you can think of a few more, but you just never use just one technique EVERY time. Mix it up. The reader get's tired of feeling like the narrator is butting it every other page. If you keep using one style, YOUR voice, as the writer will shout at them.
